But I'm thinking of whether or not I should bother with the amount of smudging I do to turn it into a smoother looking piece, as to whether it's worthwhile or not. In other words, I'll probably stop doing it for most things I draw, unless I think it's worth it.

Thought I might aswell throw up the little progress i've made. I've discovered how to use GIMP a little bit better and have improved the quality of my textures. All by using a layer filter called overlay, appropriate overlays make it look oh so much nicer, so, slight improvement on my texturing abilities.

Also I've discovered, that If I render blender files at much higher resolutions then needed, I actually get all the little details I put into the normal maps, rather then it smudging them together -_-', I thought 1920x1080 would've resulted in it looking it's best, but it seems i have to goto a higher res to get the finer details, then when I scale it down to 1920x1080 looks loads better... makes sense in theory and can't believe I didn't realise.

And for good measure, an unecessarily high render so you can see the little details put into the shirt, I like how it's turned out so far, this is going to improve everything alot :D

I realised what it was, damn you Anti-Aliasing. For any Blender users, I'd recommend changing you're Anti-Aliasing render method to Catmull-Rom, seemed to produce the sharpest image compared the other others. Guassian was just blurring alot of the finer details. Though I think I'll stick at rendering higher-res, and scaling down, still gets some of the nicer stuff then rendering at 1920x1080 itself. Oh well, you live, you learn.

I tried to do a low-poly styled character like Xeno-Strikers - http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=7351.0 + http://xeno-striker.deviantart.com/ - Anyway, it turned out ok, things I still have issues with, and pixel art ain't really my style so when it came to the texturing, etc, messed around with it as much as I could till I got something decent. Anyway, without further ado -

Also failed the UV layout lol, made it stretch the texture, need to finish the face aswell, I'm actually thinking of re-rigging this seeing as I only did a basic skeleton for fun, but making a proper rig, and doing a short-short animation with ninja's, killing, blood and violence... *ahem* I mean of him dancing in a field with bunny's and leprechauns.
Here's a short 14 second animation I did. (though vid goes through some other renders of it)

So frustrating, as my tablet is really faulty making it impossible to do any graphic 2d art + making it impossible to draw consistent enough for animation. I'm pretty much screwed, I need a job for money for graphics tablet. :}
Well back to failed 3d animations :3 & over-due homework.

I'm unsure as to what I want to do with this project, originally I was going to go the 3d animation route but due to time and obligations, it would be extremely time consuming just to achieve something that would turn out somewhat meh. I've decided I might go another route with this project or just let it die, I'm considering making a short 2d animation with flash rather then a 3d animation as this is just a somewhat prequel to a larger project I have in mind a 2d animation might suffice instead. Though 3d animation is something I would like to achieve down the track my lack of skills and knowledge would hold back the quality I want to achieve, and flash being a faster method for what I want to achieve + easier to achieve the look and style I want I might just do that.

Also I'm unsure about my plot line, as this short prequel is esseintially plotless, it's the continuation of it that makes me worried with the idea's that I want to put it, might result in a confusing mess, so it's rather problematic. For now I'm just going to go with the flash animation route and simplicity for story.

Here is the design for one of the main characters.

At the moment his textures & normal map & bump map are most likely to be only temporary. Though I'll probably be lazy and not remake them in the future, though I am open to suggestions in how to make them look better.

* For this model I used Arshlevon base mesh to help direct me in regards to the characters propotions, etc. The mesh for the hands I just copied directly and modified them slighty (Hands are the hardest things to model I swear)
